Classroom Expectations

*School hours are 8:00-2:35.  Drop-off begins at 7:15.  Students being dropped off between 7:15-7:30 will wait in the gym.  Beginning at 7:30, students will go directly to their classroom.  If your child is not in our room at 8:00 when the bell rings, he/she is considered tardy.

*BEE Folder -This folder is a great organizer to keep you and your child informed about classroom learning, upcoming events, and other important information.  This folder will be coming home each night.  Please talk to your child about taking care of the folder because it will be used all year and it is part of their responsibility to bring it back, signed by you, daily. Inside the folder is where all information/papers that come home will be placed.  There will also be a monthly calendar.  Please initial in the box each night.  This lets me know that you have reviewed your child’s take-home folder.  Beginning in September, a monthly newsletter will be copied onto the back-side of the calendar.

*If you need to send me a note about your child (for any reason), please send it in the BEE Folder.  I will also use this to send school information, book orders, picture information, etc.  Remember to use this folder for any money.  Make sure you indicate what the money is to be used for along with your child’s name.

*You will receive more information regarding homework at a later date.

*Any time there is a change in your telephone number or address, please let us know as soon as possible.  It is very important that we keep your child’s information up to date due to sudden illness, emergencies, etc.

*Please let us know of any transportation changes (example: car rider today when he/she normally rides the bus) as soon as possible.  It is best if we have a written note that morning.

*Work Folder-This folder will come home periodically.  Please take out all of your child’s work and return the folder to school.

*Breakfast is free for all students at Churchland.  Students have the opportunity to eat breakfast in the classroom every morning.

*Our class goes to lunch from 12:15-12:45. Since we have a later lunch, students may bring in a snack each day if he/she would like.  Student lunch is $2.75.  You can apply for free or reduced lunch by going to lunchapplication.com. Visitors are welcome to join us for lunch, just remember that the cafeteria only accepts cash or check.  Visitor meals are a la carte (meaning you pay for each item separately.)

*We will have enrichment on Wednesdays.  Each week, our class will have Music, Art, & PE.  (Please make sure your child wears tennis shoes every Wednesday for PE.)  We will also have Technology, Media, & Guidance every six weeks.  Library checkout will be every Friday.

*There is a $7 school fee & a $35 technology fee this year.  You are encouraged to pay the fees online at dcs.schoolcashonline.com.  Please pay these as soon as you can.

*All medicine, including over the counter medicine (ex: cough drops), must be accompanied with a medication form (from the office).  Prescription medicine MUST have the medication form filled out by the doctor.

*If your child is going to be absent for any reason, please let me know.

*Weather permitting, we will go outside daily for recess (except for Wednesdays).  Please make sure that your child is dressed appropriately for the weather.

**School & Classroom Rules**

*Listed below are the rules that all students are expected to follow:

I will follow directions the first time given.

I will keep my hands, feet, mouth, and objects to myself.

I will put people up, not down.

I will always be in the proper place.

I will walk in the building always.

I will use all materials and equipment properly.

*Our Buzz Words are:

Be Respectful.   Be Responsible.   Be Safe

**Behavior/Discipline System**

*We use ClassDojo only as a means of communication with parents.  It will allow us to instantly post messages, announcements, and share photos.  ClassDojo will not be used as a behavior management system.

*This year we will be using a classroom economy system to encourage important skills, like being a good listener and a hard worker.  Students will have the opportunity to earn money throughout the day as a way of reinforcing positive behavior. Students will also have to “pay a fine” for any negative behaviors (such as not following the rules) that may occur.  During this process, students will be adding, subtracting & exchanging money (all part of our math standards).  You will not receive a daily notification about your childs behavior.  However, if there is a problem or concern with your child’s behavior, I will let you know.  Students will have the option to spend the money they have earned at the classroom store, Sheffield's Shop.
