Classroom Expectations

School hours are 8:00-2:35.  Drop-off begins at 7:15.  Students being dropped off between 7:15-7:30 will wait in the gym.  Beginning at 7:30, students will go directly to their classroom.  If your child is not in our room at 8:00 when the bell rings, he/she is considered tardy.

BEE Folder: This folder stands for, “Bring Everything Everyday”, and is a great organizer to keep you and your child informed about classroom learning, upcoming events, and other important information.  This folder will be coming home each night.  It is important for you to check you child’s BEE Folder EVERY day for new information and to keep it cleaned out.  Please talk to your child about taking care of the folder because it will be used all year and it is part of their responsibility to bring it back, signed by you, daily. Inside the folder is where all information/papers that come home will be placed, as well as, classroom newsletter and homework.  There will also be a monthly calendar.  Please initial in the box each night.  This lets me know that you have reviewed your child’s take-home folder.

If you need to send me a note about your child (for any reason), please send it in the BEE Folder.  I will also use this to send school information, book orders, picture information, etc.  Remember to use this folder for any money.  Make sure you indicate what the money is to be used for along with your child’s name.

Data Folder: Data Folders will be sent home the first day of each week. Inside of this folder you will find your child’s classwork from the previous week. After reviewing your child’s work, please take out all work and return the folder back to school. It is necessary for you to spend time reviewing your child’s work. If you ever have any questions regarding work being sent home, please let me know.

Progress Reports: You will receive a progress report regarding your child’s academic performance each quarter. Progress reports will need to be signed and returned to school. If you have any questions regarding your child’s progress please feel free to contact me.

Homework: All homework assignments, in addition to reading, will not exceed the following times based on school board policy DCS Homework Policy 6.16.7:

*2nd Grade - 20 minutes

Medication Policy: All medicine, including over the counter medicine (ex: cough drops), must be accompanied with a medication form (from the office) or a doctor’s note.  Prescription medicine MUST have the medication form filled out by the doctor. This medicine must be brought to the front office in the original package.

School Fees: There is a $7 school fee & a $35 technology fee this year.  You are encouraged to pay the fees online at dcs.schoolcashonline.com.  Please pay these as soon as you can.

Breakfast in the Classroom: Each morning students will be able to eat in the classroom for free. We will begin breakfast at 7:45 and will finish about 8:00. If your child is a car rider, please make sure they arrive to school on time to get breakfast. They need to be at school on time in order to get what they want from the breakfast cart.

Lunch: Our class goes to lunch from 12:25-12:55. Since we have a later lunch, students may bring in a snack each day if he/she would like.  Lunch is free for all students this year. Money will need to be sent in to purchase snacks 9ice cream, cookies, chips, etc.). If you, or someone else decides to eat lunch with your child, please remember to sign in at the office and meet us at the lunchroom. It can be distracting for students if visitors come in the room to wait for lunch to start. Students are not allowed to select friends to eat with their visitors. Visitors are not allowed to sit with the class.

Recess: Weather permitting, we will go outside daily for recess (except for Thursdays).  Please make sure that your child is dressed appropriately for the weather.

Enrichment: We will have enrichment on Thursday mornings.  Each week, our class will have Music, P.E., Art, & Technology.  Please make sure your child wears tennis shoes in order to participate. We will also have Media & Guidance every six weeks.  Library checkout will be every other Wednesday.

Other Reminders

Any time there is a change in your telephone number or address, please let us know as soon as possible.  It is very important that we keep your child’s information up to date due to sudden illness, emergencies, etc.

Please make sure you stop by the school office any time you are visiting with us.  You will need to sign in and get a visitor tag.  If you do not have a tag, you will be asked to return to the office and receive one.  This is for the safety of all of our students and staff at Churchland Elementary.

Please let us know of any transportation changes (example: car rider today when he/she normally rides the bus) as soon as possible.  It is best if we have a written note that morning. Students are not allowed to ride a bus that is not on their designated route. The office will not take transportation changes over the phone.

Remember that your child cannot miss more than 16 days of school all year.  A note just be sent in following your child’s absence.
