Classroom Policies and Procedures

B.E.E. Notebook:  This notebook stands for, “Bring Everything Everyday”, and will be used as a daily communication tool throughout the school year.  Inside of your child’s B.E.E. notebook you will find our classroom newsletter, notes from the office, class schedule, money pouch, homework, your child’s daily behavior report, parent/teacher communication log and much more.   It is important for you to check your child’s B.E.E. notebook EVERY day for new information and to keep it cleaned out.  Please place any notes for the office or myself in your child’s B.E.E. notebook in the section labeled, notes. Any money being sent to school should be placed  baggie or envelope  with a label for its purpose. Your child will record their daily behavior in the calendar provided. Please initial this calendar each night and write any notes for myself in the section to the left.

Data Notebook:  Data folders will be sent home the first day of each week.  Inside of this folder you will find your child’s class work from the previous week.  After reviewing your child’s work, please sign off on the front of the folder, and take out all work. It is necessary for you to spend time reviewing your child’s work. If you ever have any questions regarding work being sent home, please let me know.

Progress Reports:  You will receive a progress report regarding your child’s academic performance two times each quarter. Progress reports will need to be signed and returned to school. If you have any questions regarding your child’s progress please feel free to contact me.

Homework: Your child will be introduced to 100 high frequency words this year.  These words will be sent home for students to practice reading at night.  If you child does not complete classwork in a timely manner it will be sent home to complete for homework.

Medication Policy: All medicine, including over the counter medicine, (ex: cough drops) must be accompanied with a medication form (from the office) or a doctor’s note. This medicine must be brought to the front office in the original package.

School Fees: General school fees are $7.  These fees cover the purchase of consumable supplies, gym and playground equipment.  Technology fees are $35.  School fees can be paid online at www.schoolcashonline.com.

Breakfast in the Classroom:  Each morning students will be able to eat breakfast in the classroom for free. We will begin breakfast at 7:45 and will finish around 8:00. If your child is a car rider, please make sure they arrive to school on time to get breakfast. They need to be at school on time in order to get what they want from the breakfast cart.

Lunch:  Our scheduled lunch time is at 12:05. Lunch is free for all students this year.  Money will need to be sent in to purchase snacks (ice cream, cookies, chips, etc.).  If you, or someone else decides to eat lunch with your child, please remember to sign in at the office and meet us at the lunchroom.  It can be distracting for students if visitors come in the room to wait for lunch to start.  Students are not allowed to select friends to eat with their visitors. Visitors are not allowed to sit with the class.

Enrichment: Classes will take place on Friday morning. Be sure to wear sneakers for P.E. in order to participate.

Other Reminders

Please refer to the school rules and procedures listed in your child’s student handbook. This handbook should cover any and all questions you may have regarding Churchland Elementary School’s rules.

Any time there is a change in your telephone number or address, please let us know as soon as possible. It is very important that we keep your child’s information up to date in case of a sudden illness or emergency.

Please make sure you stop by the school office any time you are visiting with us.  You will need to sign in and get a visitor tag.  If you do not have a tag, you will be asked to return to the office and receive one.  This is for the safety of all of our students and staff at Churchland Elementary.

Please let us know of any transportation changes (Example: car rider today when they normally ride the bus) as soon as possible.  It is best if we have a written note that morning. Students are not allowed to ride a bus that is not on their designated route.  The office will not take transportation changes over the phone.

Remember that your child cannot miss more than 16 days of school all year.  A note must be sent in following your child’s absence. Please use the pocket at the front of the BEE notebook, labeled “Notes” for this.

Stay in Touch

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.  I will not be able to have phone calls during the school day, so you will have to leave a voicemail message.  The best times to reach me by phone would be from 2:30-3:15 in the afternoons.  I do check my email throughout the day, if you would like to contact me that way.

ClassDojo

Sign up to receive important updates from Mrs. Duncan directly on your cell phone. A paper will be sent home with detailed instructions on how to sign up for classdojo. By using classdojo, I will be able to send messages to the whole class and to individual parents. You can use classdojo to send me messages as well.   Please take time to sign up so that you can be aware of what is happening in our class.

From time to time, I would like to send out pictures of what we are doing in class. If you do not wish for your child to be in any pictures that I send, please notify me as soon as possible. Also, please do not post any pictures on social media that are sent with any child other than yours.
